We were 6 months away from the event we had been dreaming of and praying for our whole lives - our wedding day. Our venue and vendors were booked, and all of our save-the-dates were sent. Then something we didn’t plan for happened: The COVID-19 Pandemic. Fear swept over our nation overnight, and everything we were looking forward to started to seem unattainable. As our wedding approached, more restrictions were put in place. People starting asking us if we were going to post-pone, or cancel. Though things looked and seemed impossible, God’s peace helped me stay calm in the midst of the chaos. I knew He was going to make a way.
One month before our wedding our vendors started backing out. The same day our venue was cancelled, we visited a family friend’s home. As we drove up their driveway that led to the most beautiful waterfront and mountain view estate I had ever seen, I whispered to James: “Wow, I wish we could just get married here!” Without sharing that to our friends, the first thing they said to us was “You should have your wedding here!” God turned our situation around in a matter of 24 hours by providing us not only a venue that was 10 times nicer than our initial plan, but it was FREE.
That very same week, a woman from church we had just met went to James's mother and shared that the Lord had told her that we needed her help. She recruited several of her family members and little did we know—they were part of our saving grace on the day of the wedding as all of our other volunteers had cancelled and even no-showed us. Had it not been for their help, I would have been serving the food at my own wedding!
I could tell you how beautiful and magical our wedding was, but it doesn’t compare to the power and glory of the Lord that was present every second of our wedding day. The Holy Spirit was moving and His presence was so wonderful, so beautiful, so real. We asked our pastor to preach The Gospel during our ceremony. The Lord had orchestrated James’s and my love story, but we wanted the greatest love story of all time to be known to our closest family and friends: the love story of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. At least 7 people raised their hands and said yes to Jesus! We even got to baptize one of our groomsmen the very next day at the same place we had our ceremony. To God be the glory! Even though our plans didn’t go as expected—God had a better plan! He exceeded anything we could have ever asked or imagined!
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know that plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
