Carried with Love

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

I always knew we would need a surrogate to carry our child. We specifically needed a gestational carrier (our ingredients, her oven). Thankfully, when my husband and I were ready to start a family, we had three volunteers! But one-by-one we realized our incredible volunteers weren’t going to work out for one reason or another. Option number one developed hyperemesis – nausea so severe she had to quit her job while carrying her own child. Option two was willing but didn’t meet the surrogacy requirement of previously carrying a child. Option three was hesitant and wanted to be a last resort. We wanted someone 100% on-board. So, we were back to square one and started praying for God to send us the right person.

One day as my husband and I were serving on our church prayer team, Matt & Cindy headed to us. Cindy shared, “We don’t want you to pray for us. Are you guys having trouble having kids?” We started crying. We knew this couple, but not well, and there was no way for them to know our unique situation. Cindy told us she felt God pushing her to talk to us, but had no idea why. We explained our need to use a surrogate and Cindy and Matt offered to pray for us. After praying, Cindy said “I will carry your child if that’s what you need. My uterus is your uterus.” We laughed, cried, and knew without a shadow of a doubt that this was a God-ordained encounter.

How does this happen?!?! Who else but God could work this out? We were praying, and God brought us the perfect couple. I am still in awe of Cindy’s obedience. Can you imagine sitting in church, God telling you to go talk to someone without knowing why, & ten minutes later you are volunteering to carry their baby??? It’s too crazy to be anything but God.

On November 18th, we transferred one embryo and on July 28th our miracle arrived.

Through all of this, I learned that God does hear us. He sees our pain and loves us so much. To say God is good is an understatement. He was with us through every high and carried us through every low. He didn’t answer every prayer exactly how we imagined, but he answered. His timing is perfect, and he knows what is best because he sees the entire picture (not the sliver of our own perspective).

Mark 11:24 shares, “I tell you, you can pray for anything and if you believe that you received it, it will be yours.”
